Ash Wednesday to Easter

The season of Lent runs from Ash Wednesday until Easter. It is 40 days in length, though Sundays are not counted as part of the 40 days. Traditionally this season is a time of somber reflection, repentance and discipline. Dumbarton’s Worship Cluster works together to craft a Lenten theme and seasonal observances for Lent.

Holy Week

Dumbarton sederPalm Sunday to Easter is the busiest and most important week of the congregation’s worship life. During these few days we have worship services for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Saturday’s Easter Vigil and the Easter Sunday celebration. We also share a Seder meal in honor of Jesus’ Jewish roots on Holy Thursday. Each service connects the ancient stories of faith to our contemporary setting.

Lenten Practices Beyond Worship---What You Can Do

While we ponder this historic Methodist question of “How it is with your soul?” through our worship together, members of the Worship Cluster also want to encourage and support Dumbartonians in trying on a spiritual discipline for the 40 days of Lent..

Together during Lent we will look at spiritual disciplines and how they can be means of God’s grace that helps us experience God’s presence in our lives.

While here is a list of potential “temporary habits” there are many other possibilities.

Lenten Reflections
