Elected Committees
Church Leadership
Dumbarton has several committees whose members are elected at the Annual Charge Conference after being nominated by the Lay Leadership Committee.
Church Council is the governing body of the church, made up of the elected church officers, including the elected cluster coordinators, the lay leader, chairs of the committees, plus at-large members. The council makes decisions about program directions, large maintenance and restoration items, budget and finance, mission opportunities, education policy and other issues.
Finance Committee is composed of DUMC's finance chair, treasurer, assistant treasurer and financial secretary, who make sure that contributions are recorded, pledges are tallied and expenses are completed within budgetary guidelines. The finance secretary is assisted by a group of counters, who ensure accurate reporting of weekly collections. During the fall, the Stewardship Committee chair, lay leader, pastor and Church Council chair serve as consultants to the group, when the operations budget for the following year is created. If funds need to be raised for special projects, the committee is always involved.
Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) consists of nine elected members of the church who meet monthly to work closely with the pastor. SPRC acts as a liaison between the pastor, other staff persons, and the congregation. SPRC recommends salary levels for any church staff, including the pastor. When the church needs new support-staff persons, SPRC organizes the search, then interviews and hires the person, consulting with Church Council as needed.
The Board of Trustees labors on the physical condition of our historic church building and parsonage. The trustees scout out and arrange for needed repairs to the church's and the parsonage's building and grounds. The trustees coordinate cleanup days, when all DUMCers are urged to pitch in and improve our facilities and grounds.
Lay Leadership Committee nominates potential members of elected committees. It sorts through surveys of members' interests and selects those with the best interest and aptitude in the position. It also fills vacated positions.
