"And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain.  And I've looked over.  And I've seen the promised land.  I may not get their with you.  But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land.  And I'm happy, tonight.  I'm not worried about anything.  I'm not fearing any man.  Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord."

- Dr. Martin Luther King

On-Line Discussion and Announcements

We maintain an internet Dumbarton Mailing List, also called a listserve.   This is an unmoderated place is for members and friends to easily and frequently communicate with each other when we are not physically together.  We rely on each member to use good e-mail etiquette.  Remember that e-mails sent on this list are not secure.

Dumbarton UMC also has an Announcement List for occasional news and information. All announcements are sent to the church secretary who posts them to the announcement list

All members and friends of Dumbarton UMC are welcome to join either list. (or both)

Here's some helpful information about the listserve mailing list.

  • The number of e-mails per day are typically between none and five.  However during intense conversations the number of e-mails rises dramatically.
  • You may also choose a "digest" option where you receive all the e-mails from the previous day in one message.
  • To protect our computer systems, attachments are not permitted.
  • Any e-mail sent to the list address will be received by all people on the list. Don't post anything you wouldn't want anyone in church or anywhere around the globe to read.  A notebook containing messages on the listserve is kept in the social hall at the church.
  • Current list participants are primarly DUMC members, but members are always looking forward to others joing the list.
  • Since this list is intended to be a safe space for ourselves and those with whom we share our hearts and our faith, subscribing to the list is achieved by writing the moderator and introducing yourself, giving list members a sense of who the new member is..
  • Do share ideas, articles, news, snippets, food for thought and discussion topics.
  • Remember that most people at Dumbarton UMC do not receive these e-mails.
  • Remember that people who do not attend DUMC do receive these e-mails.  So when referring to any event, please explain the reference.
  • Do post announcements, questions and opinions
  • If you want to reply to an individual only, be sure to send the message to that person's e-mail address and not to the mailing list address.
  • If you want to check about virus alerts and virus hoax alerts, here are two good sites: Symantec Anti-Virus Research Center and McAfee Anti-Virus Center.  Please check with these sites before posting an alert to the mailing list.
