Lenten Study: The Resurrection
Join us for a weekly three-part series on the resurrection on Jan. 22, Feb. 6 and March 20. For nearly two thousand years, the resurrection of Jesus has been at the center of Christianity and a literal interpretation of the Easter story has been embedded in church liturgy and doctrine to this day. But modern scholars and theologians have been raising intriguing questions about what happened after the crucifixion. Why does Paul, the author of the oldest portions of the Christian scriptures, not mention the resurrection? Why do the Gospel accounts differ in such significant ways? Do these differences have theological significance?
On each of the three evenings, we will hear a presentation of a contemporary author's take on the resurrection and then join in discussion. For details and locations, call the church office, 202-333-7212.
