Adult Education

Adult Education programs at Dumbarton cover a wide variety of topics--ranging from those in which we share our interests in music or meditation, to those in which we collectively search for common ground on controversial topics dealing with such issues as sexual orientation, globalization, and the essence of Christianity.

Trying to be a good citizen--and a good Christian--in this complex world requires a community of diverse people with whom we can share knowledge, wisdom, and questions. At Dumbarton we have a thoughtful group of people, each of whom has a piece of knowledge that when shared, can help all of us make better decisions.

Time: 9:30 am for coffee and other refreshments, 10:00 am for program on Sundays, September - June

Place: Social Hall at Dumbarton United Methodist Church

Newcomers and guests are always most welcome!

What participants say:

"I love the surprises! The half-hour before the discussion--with Fair Trade coffee and delicious pastries--sets the stage for programs around eternal verities as well as the week's major events. One week, a member shares his passion for the music of J. S. Bach; the next, we might hear a major national figure talk about religious peacemaking in regions of religious conflict."

"Good coffee. Good discussion. Good speakers. Good topics. Easy parking. These are all good reasons for getting to church an hour early every Sunday."

"Sometimes church is about healing; sometimes it's about shaking us up. I like both aspects of a church like Dumbarton!"

After a simple evening meal, adults gathered to discuss hymns, theology and tradition.
