Bringing New Life to the Church

Dumbarton’s Young Adult Ministry, affectionately called the YAMs, creates a welcoming space for many young adults in the D.C. area. Whether you’re a college student, a young professional, a seminarian, or are  just looking for a way to meet new people, you’re welcome to hang with the YAMs.

Leadership Roles

Young adults are leaders at Dumbarton and in the wider United Methodist Church. YAMs serve Dumbarton as lay leader, Church Council members, worship leaders and in many other positions. In the United Methodist Church, many of our YAMs are active volunteers with the Reconciling Ministries Network and Methodist Federation for Social Action. Other YAMS are young adult missionaries with Global Ministries of the UMC, participants in area campus ministries and employees of the United Methodist Publishing House.

Activities
 

The YAMs consistently have two activities each week:

• Lunch at Five Guys across the street from Dumbarton after worship on Sunday (Even though it's famous for burgers and fries, vegetarian options are available!)

• YAM Bible Study at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Cosi at Metro Center (12th and G Sts. NW) – no preparation required!!.

Other YAM activities have included: Participating in DUMC’s presence at Capital Pride. Organizing DUMC’s first Fall Festival for children and celebrating holidays with potluck gatherings (Easter, Christmas, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day).

• Organizing movie nights to share with the rest of the Dumbarton community.
• Participating in actions for justice, equality, and peace in the DC area and nationally.
